A Shoe-in for Princesses everywhere

This news come to us at a funny time since I’m right in the middle – neck deep planning my daughters princess birthday party.

Dressing like a Disney princess is about to get a lot more high-end. Louboutin will unveil his Cinderella inspired “glass slippers” (read: most likely red-soled and Swarovski crystal adorned heels] this summer right in time for Walt Disney’s re-release of the Cinderella on DVD and Blu-ray. The slips will certainly be as magical as the movie, but we don’t recommend cleaning the fireplace in those suckers.

Burlington Coat Factory coming to Union Square

It wasn’t that long ago since Filenes Basement closed it’s doors in the Union Square location.  We’ve received word that Burlington Coat Factory will be taking up this space.  According to the press release, the new store will have many “brag-worthy” merchandise from Women, Men, Children & even a small furniture area.  Time will tell if this will be another great discount spot to venture to.

Jill Sander Sample Sale

Thanks to Racked, here’s an update on the Jill Sander sample happening right now.

Earlier today, we took a quick look at the Jil Sander sample sale, which kicked off this morning at 8 Crosby Street in Soho. Now, let’s examine the deals a little more closely. First, the good news: You don’t have to be invited to get in, despite what it says on the invitation. Now, the less good news: The selection is limited, especially in terms of menswear.

The room is easy to navigate once you check your bag and coat. The table in the center of the room contains largely men’s cashmere sweaters and a few women’s sweaters. A rack of men’s clothing (coats and pants) stands near the center back of the room. Want handbags, small leather goods, belts, gloves, shoes, or boots? You’ll find those at the very back. Men’s and women’s RTW is 85% off, as are shoes and boots, while all other accessories are 80% off.

In the sea of dark colors, we found only a small section of brightly-colored women’s RTW. Sizes tend to be either small (34 or 36) or large (40, 42, and 44). The remaining women’s RTW is largely black, navy, or charcoal grey. A beautiful navy wool sheath dress for $157 (originally $1045) is by far one of the best deals here, though we also liked black wool coats for $457 (originally $3,045) and quilted down jackets for $270 (originally $1,800).

The purses, small leather goods, and shoes are also big sellers. Elbow-length leather gloves are going for $140 (originally $700) and boots for $113 (originally $750). By the time we left the sale, the pandemonium had pretty much died down around the purse and shoe area, leaving the selection and sizes limited.

Overall, this doesn’t feel like the first public day of the sale, when there are still plenty of things to choose from. It’s more like the second or third day when everything has been picked over and the good stuff is long gone. Currently, they’re only letting people in as someone else leaves, so the wait could take a while. If you still go, note that there are full-length mirrors throughout the room but no designated changing area. The sale will not be restocked and runs through Saturday, April 28. Get hours and more details here.
